A clean slate for the DC Agenda

What was originally slated to be a “Tweetup” (gathering of Twitter users) had become something much different and far more important. It was the official announcement that what once was The Washington Blade is now the DC Agenda. The modest displaced staff were all present and greeted by the community with such a supportive embrace that it was a beautiful thing to behold.

Lynne Brown, publisher, and Kevin Naff, editor, each addressed the very large crowd in the very small back bar area at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington DC to express their sheer gratitude for the outpouring of support the community and country has offered to all those who have been affected by the folding of Window Media LLC. There were many thanks given especially to the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC for being the sponsor of a full back page ad for what will be a “Modest first issue” although so many people will be happy to see it on the stands modest or verbose won’t really matter.

If you found this site you probably know that after 40 years as the news source of record for the LGBT community, the Washington Blade ceased publication on Monday November 16, 2009.

Can we save the Blade?

While we cannot save the name we can certainly save all that was the essence and spirit of our LGBTQ Community’s newspaper of record.

The staff of the paper remains united and our mission to enlighten and inform remains steadfast. We wil launch a new publication that will bring you what we have always worked to deliver - gay news and information that is critical to our Metro DC LGBTQ Community.

A modest premiere issue of the DC AGENDA will be distributed across D.C. on Friday, November 20, 2009 and will also publish on the DC AGENDA’s new website.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of community support and interest. If you would like to be part of the new venture, please use our contact page to get in touch or send us an email. And, if you would like to contribute financially, you can do so here. The staff is currently working on a volunteer basis; financial support will be used to cover printing, distribution, equipment and other related costs.
